Innotech Centre Hosts Institute Of Civil Engineering Stem Event

The Institute of Civil Engineering Northern Ireland in association with South West College recently held a special event to celebrate Civil Engineering in Primary Schools. The event celebrated the work of 7 primary schools and ambassadors from a variety of organisations across Northern Ireland. At this event Primary School children presented projects that they had researched and developed with the aid of expert advice and guidance covering a multitude of civil engineering disciplines.

David Cleland (Chairman, Institution of Civil Engineers Northern Ireland) said ‘Promoting understanding of the nature of civil engineering is in essence the raison d’etre of the Civil Engineering in Primary Schools project. We are delighted that so many primary schools have worked with our engineering ambassadors for the past few months, something that has been a great benefit to the ambassador’s aswell as the schools’.

The event was supported by the InnoTech Centre at South West College, which has a primary objective to nurture and grow innovation and technology through a number of key concepts. In a dynamic and exciting way the InnoTech Centre is assisting with the development of a culture of innovation and adventure in schools to promote the STEM subjects through the provision of a comprehensive programme of awareness raising activities, such as this Primary School initiative.
